After taking a break for the Fourth of July holiday, Cattlemen's Livestock Market was back in action with 337 head of cattle through the auction.

According to Dave Tomkow, the market held steady compared to where it was before the holiday break. The sale featured a good selection of cows, including several older bred cows that attracted solid buyer interest.

Older bred cows also sold well this week. A nice group of 9 to 11-year-old red cows averaged in the $2,100 to $2,200 range, showing continued demand for quality breeding cattle.

Overall, both the feeder calf market and butcher cow market remained steady heading into the middle of summer.

VAC Sale Reminder - July 21st

The VAC Program is a voluntary health and marketing program designed to help cattle producers add value and improve marketability. If you're interested in enrolling cattle or learning more about the program, give Dave or Hailey a call at the market.

If you're bringing VAC cattle to the sale, please notify the market the week before or let us know your expected head count. This allows us to alert buyers in advance so they can be prepared for the offering.

Pastures Need More Rain

While many areas have started receiving scattered showers, conditions remain inconsistent across the region. Some pastures are greening up, while others are still waiting on much-needed rainfall.

Dave reminds producers to continue monitoring pasture conditions, water sources, and herd health closely.

This time of year, maintaining a strong mineral and salt program is especially important.

As Dave always says:

"A good healthy cow makes a good healthy calf... and a good healthy check."

Thank you to all of our buyers and sellers for your continued support. We hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth of July, and we'll see you back at the market next week.
