The market stayed strong this week at Cattlemen’s Livestock Auction Market, with 244 head of cattle selling on April 7th. Even with lighter numbers typical for this time of year, demand held firm and prices reflected it.
Bulls especially saw a noticeable bump, trending about $10 higher, which tells you demand is still pushing hard across all classes.
Right now, one of the biggest drivers is supply. Numbers are short across the board. Not just here, but everywhere. That limited supply is helping hold this market strong, and looking ahead, there’s nothing immediate pointing toward a drop.
On the ranch side, conditions are decent but not perfect. Grass is starting to green up, but without consistent rain and warmer nights, it’s not growing like it should yet. This is the time to stay ahead of it.
Keep protein and minerals in front of your cows and don’t let them fall behind. A healthy cow raises a better calf, and a better calf brings a better price.
