Dave’s Market Minute
We sold 485 head this week. Calves were stronger across the board, running 5 to 8 higher. Cows were a little cheaper, about 2 to 5 lower. Demand stayed solid for good calves, especially the VAC-program cattle. Those VAC calves looked sharp and buyers noticed.
Quality across the barn keeps climbing. Over the last 10 to 15 years, you can see a real shift in the type of cattle folks are raising around here. Better bulls, better mama cows, and it shows in the ring.
This week’s high calf brought six dollars and fifty cents per pound. High cow was one fifty six. High bull was one seventy nine. Cow numbers were a little light, but demand held steady.
We’re getting into that time of year where health programs matter more than ever. That recent cold snap bit the grass back hard. Keep an eye on your cows, keep hay out, and make sure they’re getting their protein supplements. Staying ahead of it now saves trouble later.
